Common and Jack Snipe

Further to the recent jack snipe post, Bill Aspin has kindly sent me this photo.
The common snipe is on the left and the jack snipe on the right. Click on the image to enlarge - well worth it. Thanks Bill.

now if only we all could get the birds to pose so nicely for id purposes!

Love the snipe - it is a beautiful bird. One came to earth when I was teaching in the quadrangle of our high rise school and it couldn't take off again. The head put it in a cardboard box and sent a child to me withit as he knew I was keen on birds. I got a close look at its markings before taking it outside to release it. A precious moment I have never forgotten.

CGP - I know what you mean - wonderful shot isn't it. I hope you visit his site.

Weaver - what a wonderful experience and definitely not to be forgotten.
I recall holding a baby blue tit many years ago. Luke was only 4 at the time and said, 'Mum, a tiny bird has just fallen off the window sill.' I'm glad I listened because when we got outside it had got well and truly wedged between the gutter and the wall. Holding it while rescuing it was a real treat.

This is a brilliant photo: really helpful. Thank you for your 'welcome back'. Life is returning to 'normal patterns' slowly ...

Coastcard - good to hear from you again and I'm glad things are returning to normal.

It's worth following all the links from this blog to the wildlife photographers - I've found some really talented and obliging ones.
