Cloves to the rescue!

Ok - so it might look like a puny mace.... but if it keeps those flies out of my kitchen and back in the fields where the birds can eat them, I'll be pleased.

Couldn't resist this one: on the subject of flies, it is clear that there are those who currently advocate the use of the racing section ... Take a look at this: fly-swatting.

My grandmother had a garden full of wild flowers or herbs, she always had bowls of catnip on the window sills to keep flies away. Can't say whether it worked or not, might be worth a try and would look pretty :)

Coastcard - the racing section ehh? Does using that page help one swat faster???

Duxbury Rambler - Catnip - what a pretty idea. I wonder if I could grow some in a pot and have it on the window sill next to the basil. I suppose I'll have to wait until next year now... but yea I might try that.

The link has gone now in the paper, but yes, someone with flies in North Lincs. advocated swatting them with the racing (can't recall if it was horses or cars) section of his newspaper ...

Conclusion - the apple and cloves is a waste. Don't bother.
Better to eat the apple and let it give you a bit more energy to see the pests off!
