Pruning

I spent part of Saturday pruning and disentangling a rambling rose from my Berberis and now have the scratches and thorns to prove it!
It's all about balance. Don't cut back enough and plants suffer, cut back too much and you loose a safe habitat and feeding place for wildlife.
It's like that with the creative lifestyle too. Become too busy, as I am prone to do, and creativity is stifled. Don't do enough and it's difficult to find material to draw from.
Creative flow reflects our state of mental balance. What do you think?

Above - my garden. Below - I put out a range of food but the tits and finches always seem to prefer the sunflower seeds.

I was pruning this weekend too and I know exactly what you mean about the balance! Oh thanks for the photo of the bird feeder, must get one and find a place for it. We only got access to our shared garden quite recently and haven't got to the bird feeders yet.

I agree with you, mistlethrush. It's so difficult to get the balance right. Years ago I remember reading a passage in one of the early diaries of Anais Nin about something similar - how her compulsive journal writing left no time for living, while intense periods of living left no time for writing and reflecting on them.

Hello again Carol. Pruning is something I try not to think about since I pruned out a nest! Creativity is something I think about a lot. Some days I feel very creative and others (often when I am preoccupied with something) I can't get going. Something to do with which side of the brain is in dominance I think. But one things I am sure about - the more you write the more you are able to write.

"The more you write the more you are able to write" - Absolutely.
So when I'm writing up assessments, academic essays or just blogging I can console myself that I'm still writing!
I've got some more writing exercises for my classes - and I've promised myself that I'm going to join in and do them too. Susan do you write alongside your learners?

cgp - before you buy bird feeders check out whether you have squirrels. The squirrels here cost me a fortune! The feeder in the photo is the only squirrel proof one so far - but one of them is getting quite close to finding a way to nick all the sunflower seeds!
