Making it count

Yesterday I saw a stoat running along the road - it really made my day. A moment to treasure.
As well as the spectacular, the everyday can be inspiring if we look at it differently. I was reminded of this the other day when I was looking at some greetings cards - ordinary pictures but the captions transformed them to something philosophical and worthwhile.
The right caption can make or break a picture - or can it? What do you visual artists and writers think?

Competition time: below is a somewhat bland photo. What caption would you give it?

I would call this picture "Between Horizons." Hello again. How are you?

Oh I saw a stoat run across the path in front of me once, wonderful moment as you say. I collect moments like that...

ASs for a caption, I'll think about it and come back....

Hi Carol. I agree that quite an ordinary incident can transform a day. Hares running across stubble, a baby smiling at you in the supermarket (I shop at Tesco on Catterick Garrison - there are lots of young soldiers and lots of delightful babies - they often make my day with their gurgles and smiles). Also agree thata caption can make or break a picture. How about "contemplation" for yours - not very original I'm afraid. I sometimes think it is better to fit the picture to the caption rather than vice versa.

I'm fine thanks Gingatao - and if anyone hasn't visited his site, go see it. Some innovative writing to be found there.

Thanks for your captions and special moments. I wish I'd had my camera with me this afternoon. We went to Witton Park this afternoon and saw two 'Giant Rabbits' - and what giants they were! Bigger than foxes. The stuff of nightmares...

Hi Carol, I really like the image - what stands out most for me is the light reflecting on the water behind the silhouetted figure on the rocks. Sometimes it's good have no title and leave it for the viewer to decide. Perhaps you could make a series of these Untitled Silhouettes I II III etc - and maybe that is the title of each ?

all the best
Rhys
